Waaaaugh! [Feb. 21st, 2015|06:03 pm]

Did these a couple days ago, but I decided I wanted all my Orc command groups to be different from each other, like a confederations of various warbands of Orcs have mobbed up into one big giant army. Combine the base Orc plastics with some OOP metal command bits, and you've got some distinctive command figures.

Carving up some of the old resin Ork Barricades to make flying stands for some Deffkoptas in my Goff Ork army. Replacing the normal flying standing with much thicker clear acrylic rod and adding old metal 40K2 Goff Ork models like old Nobz and Skarboyz to the bases for retro decoration.

Wow, 33 Games Workshop War of the Ring movement trays just sold on ebay for almost $200! I can see these being the new Necromunda bulkheads.

Feeling very accomplished right now... [Jan. 25th, 2015|07:52 pm]

Opened a TON of old Lord of the rings blisters and cleaned, assembled, and based a boatload of old figures from over a decade ago. They all sell for crazy money on eBay now. Rummaging through some old stuff turned up an old Totem Hunter project I've been meaning to work on for YEARS now, since the days when all the Warmachine models were all-metal and the starter boxes were $50 each. I ordered the then-new metal bases to help keep this guy from falling over and even added old pewter offcuts to the base to weigh it down even further. He was a complete pain to assemble, but looks amazing so far.

Pieces for this have been sitting on my desk for wayyy too long, like a year or more. Now I've got the last little bits necessary to put this together. it's a base for the old Forgeworld Flying Hive Tyrant.

In the not-too distant future the face of the earth had been almost destroyed by uncontrolable natural disasters. Only a few cities remain, humanity itself turned as violent as the planet. Civilisation was threatened with collapse, but a solution was found. The crumbling legal system was merged with the overburdened police, creating a powerful and efficient hybrid. These new guardians of society had the power to dispense both justice and punishment. They were judge, jury and executioner...and ack ack ACK! Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack ack ack ACK! Ack ack ack ack. ACK! Ack, ack! Ack! Ack! Ack ack ACK! Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack ack ack ACK! Ack ack ack ack. ACK! Ack, ack! Ack! Ack! Ack! Ack ack ack ACK! Ack ack ack ack. ACK! Ack, ack! Ack! Ack!

Just bought a pack of the old 40K2-era Tyranid Rippers on ebay for the old 90s price. Gonna use them to weigh down the base on a Spawn of Cryptus model.

Black Friday [Nov. 28th, 2014|09:10 am]

So I admit it, I did some Black Friday shopping. I gotta say, pickings were slim. I was super-lucky to get a 128 gb flash drive, and I tossed in some moves for five bucks each. None of the other sales were good, and I didn't even want to deal with Fry's, which is always a madhouse.

Got a ton of hobby work done, basing up a Finecast Space Marine Chaplain with jump pack, and putting in some work on Ghazghkull Thraka. However the biggest thing has to be putting down some paint on this Ultramarines dreadnought. Feels good to lay down some paint - been over three months since I last picked up a brush.

Throwback Thursday, Warhammer-style [Oct. 5th, 2014|07:56 pm]

Assembled and based some Judge Dredd models, then took a trip down memory lane with these ancient Rogue Trader figures. Most of them date from 1987 or so. I even have loads of some Zoats and even some metal Rogue Trader Space Marines from when GW reissued those figures very briefly in the 2000s. Not pictured are some gretchin assistants, a grot with a blunderbuss from Space Crusade. and just a basic Gretchin with autogun from the 40K2 box set. This stuff sells for crazy money on ebay, but i plan on using all these ancient Ork models to add extra classic detail to my Ork Stompa.

Tyranids were weird back then. They were barely an army, and more like alien NPCs. They even wore clothing made from animal hides and would store spare tools in their pockets. Nothing like what they would later become. Rogue Trader was weird back then, Space Marines were just thuggish mercenaries in power armor, the books were littered with weird references to things like carnivorous sand clams and flying ptera-squirrels, and who could forget the infamous Inquisitor Obi-wan Sherlock Clouseau?
